Glenorchy Council is one step closer to establishing its regional playspace at Giblins Reserve, Goodwood. A tender has been called for the construction of the much anticipated new play facility will include new state of the art equipment with a focus on accessible equipment to allow inclusivity for all, nature & water play areas, walking tracks, picnic areas and BBQ facilities and a new accessible toilet.
In late 2019, Council received approval for a $2m Federal Government grant, secured by Independent MP, Andrew Wilkie, with Council also committing a further $1.4m towards the provision of safe, inclusive and regionally specific play destination for our community.
Working alongside the community, Council engaged designers to incorporate the community’s ideas into a new vision for play time in Glenorchy. Keen advocates such as the Goodwood Community Centre were involved from the initial concept stage to deliver ideas to transform the local recreational area. In 2022 Council and the Federal Government agreed to fund the designs for the playspace at Giblins Reserve, Goodwood in its entirety, delivering the playspace in line with the community’s vision. Now Council is seeking the right applicant to begin construction of the playspace.
Advertising for the construction tender will open on Saturday 26th March 2022.
