Councils exist to serve the community. To do this effectively, Glenorchy City Council needs to listen to and engage with the people of Glenorchy. As authorised in the Local Government Act 1993, this is achieved in a range of ways; from Aldermen listening to specific concerns through to project-specific engagement.
Council’s current Community Engagement Framework was developed in 2016, and it is now time to review these documents and processes to ensure we are doing all we can to hear from our community on issues that impact you.
How to have your say:

What do we mean when we say Community Engagement?
‘Community engagement is a planned process with the specific purpose of working across organisations, stakeholders and communities to shape our decisions or actions in relation to a problem, opportunity or outcome.’ – International Association of Public Participation
When we say “engagement” we mean any time that Council:
- needs to exchange information with the community
- needs community input to enable quality decision making
Why do you have to register to take part in this survey?
By registering and telling us a bit about yourself:
- You help us understand our community better, it gives you a direct line to us to make sure that your views on community issues and matters are heard. It also helps us to understand how a project may affect different parts of our community.
- We can keep you updated on important project news and how community comments have contributed to decisions made by Council.
- We know that you are a real person with genuine responses and opinions. This promotes accountability and helps us flag if someone is leaving multiple comments to support their own position.
Registering on Let’s talk, Glenorchy is quick and simple with just a few questions that help us understand who is participating.
We will ask for a username, an email, suburb, and a couple of questions about your relationship with Glenorchy. We also ask some additional questions, which you are optional. The more information you provide, the better we can understand how a proposal may affect different parts of our community. Once you register you can come back later to fill in more information.
Our Let’s Talk, Glenorchy team are happy to assist with your registration – you can call 6216 6800, email letstalk@gcc.tas.gov.au or visit us at 374 Main Road Glenorchy to be taken through the process.
