The Glenorchy City Council has welcomed a State Government report identifying Glenorchy as the preferred site for an ice rink.
Mayor Sue Hickey said the report identified land at Goodwood as a preferred location.
“That parcel of council-owned land is currently leased until 2027 by a model car club and includes a track for racing remote-control cars.
“While Council has had initial discussions with this tenant, further consultation would need to occur should any plan be finalised.”
Mayor Hickey said she looked forward to the Government opening its expression of interest.
“The closure of the privately-owned ice rink that operated in Glenorchy for more than four decades was keenly felt both by the community and the many people who participate in ice sports.
“I’m pleased that Glenorchy may be able to again host an ice rink, and I know the people who have been lobbying for a new facility will also welcome this announcement as some progress toward that goal,” she said.
