Glenorchy City Council has elected Russell Yaxley as its Deputy Mayor.
Ald. Yaxley won a majority of votes from elected members at the council’s regular meeting on Monday afternoon, 29 July 2024.
Ald. Yaxley said he was pleased to have been elected to the role, and thanked elected members for their support.
“I’m excited at the opportunity this will provide me to continue promoting the interests and ideas of the Glenorchy community around the council table as well as other forums.
“I am fiercely passionate about this community and look forward to representing its residents and ratepayers as Deputy Mayor,” he said.
Glenorchy Mayor Sue Hickey congratulated Ald. Yaxley on his elevation to the Deputy Mayor’s role.
“The strength of this council is that we take a team approach to the issues that are important to our community and work hard with other levels of government to deliver results. I know that Ald. Yaxley enshrines that work ethic and I look forward to working with him to continue building our community,” she said.
The position became vacant following the election of former Deputy Mayor Sue Hickey to the role of Mayor after former Mayor Bec Thomas won the by-election for the Upper House seat of Elwick in State Parliament.
