Glenorchy City Council continuing city safety conversations

The Glenorchy City Council last night held a Community Yarn with a strong focus on community safety in response to the issue of antisocial behaviour in its CBD areas.

The event was an opportunity for the wider community to discuss their concerns directly with Council, as well as hear from Doctor Zelinda Sherlock on practical tips on how to respond safely as a bystander if incidents occur.

Glenorchy Mayor Sue Hickey said the council was taking the issue of antisocial behaviour and criminal activity in its CBD areas extremely seriously and would continue working with Tasmania Police and other government agencies to stamp out these issues in our community.

“Council has heard first-hand the detrimental impact the behaviour is having on community and businesses and hopes members of the public who attended gained valuable information.
“Whilst last night was about community, Council has recently hosted a business forum to provide practical advice to the business community and their staff about how they can help combat these incidents.”

Mayor Hickey said the two meetings would culminate in a roundtable session on October 14, bringing together community members and key decision makers from relevant agencies to discuss long term solutions.
