Glenorchy City Council welcomes news of Glenorchy Sports Centre.

Glenorchy City Council has welcomed new plans for the Glenorchy Sports Centre.

Infrastructure Tasmania is overseeing the planning and construction of a new multi-sports center in Glenorchy. The facility will be located at the entrance of Claremont College in northern Glenorchy and will cater to sports like basketball, netball, volleyball, and futsal. It will feature:

  • Four multi-use courts
  • Changing rooms for players, visitors, and staff
  • An entry area with a kiosk and a multi-purpose space
  • Storage areas and utility zones
  • Parking for up to 50 vehicles
  • Space for future expansion

The site was chosen after a detailed assessment of 17 possible locations. Taplin Consulting, All Urban Planning, and ARTAS conducted independent reviews, looking at factors like land use, title issues, and the suitability of the ground.

The Claremont College site was selected as the preferred choice based on the site’s suitability, accessibility, space availability, and development readiness. The Tasmanian Government has allocated up to $28 million in funding for the Glenorchy sports centre, with plans to adapt the original design created for Wilkinsons Point to fit the new site which will help to streamline the delivery project’s timeline.
