Renfrew Circle Stage 1 works are complete!

The first part of a major update of Renfrew Circle has been completed!

Glenorchy City Council’s Capital Works Team is renewing the entire circle and installing traffic calming measures along the stretch of road.

Raised tables are being constructed at intersections to prevent speeding through the area and keep pedestrians and motorists safe.

Raised tables, or “speed tables”, are sections of road that have been raised to reduce the speed of traffic. These tables are longer than speed bumps and are flat-topped.

The works were planned following feedback from Goodwood residents, and a consultation process on the proposed traffic calming measures.

It is hoped the completed project will address “rat running” between the Brooker Highway and Goodwood Road.

Rat running is when drivers use a residential street during peak periods to avoid congestion on main roads.

Mayor Sue Hickey maintains road safety is always a top priority for Council.

“Glenorchy City Council is proud to be a yellow ribbon council – thanks to a partnership with SARAH GROUP.

“This partnership reinforces our commitment to road safety, a commitment that includes keeping our road network in the best condition possible.

“But these road upgrades are only half of the story, road safety is everyone’s responsibility”.

Stage 1 works stretch from the Acton Crescent intersection to Allardyce Avenue in Goodwood.

Works also include installation of new underground storm water pipeline and drain points along with 700 metres of kerb, channel and footpaths.

Works will see 30 stormwater property connections renewed, 320 square metres of concrete driveways replaced, 3000 square metres of road pavement and seal renewed or replaced, and the reconstruction of the existing roundabout at the intersection of Renfrew Circle and Acton Crescent.

The entire project is expected to be completed in five stages, over several years.

The initial stage is expected to cost over $1.4 million once complete.

Updates on the project can be found on the Council website at www.gcc.tas.gov.au or contact Council’s Customer Services area on phone 6216 6800.
