Glenorchy City Council is continuing to roll out our signal box wrap scheme, with phase three now complete!
The initiative tackles graffiti with local art, our officers installing the artworks on traffic signal boxes throughout the Glenorchy CBD, Claremont and Moonah areas.
Phase three of the initiative highlights the talent of school kids in the area, with locally made artwork showcased on traffic signal boxes across the region.
Participating schools include:
- Goodwood Primary School
- Windermere Primary School
- Rosetta Primary School
- St Therese’s Catholic School
- Holy Rosary Catholic School
- Bowen Road Primary School
- Moonah Primary School
- Dominic College
- Collinsvale Primary School
- Hilliard Primary School
- Springfield Gardens Primary School
Glenorchy Mayor Sue Hickey maintains it is a top priority to tackle graffiti in the City.
“It is amazing that we can showcase the talent of our students, while fighting graffiti in our community,” she said.
“We recognize that traffic signal boxes are often targeted for tagging, and we believe this project is another great way to enhance our public spaces, creating a city that everyone can take pride in.”
Council is testing a specially designed plastic wrap for signal boxes, featuring a print laminated with anti graffiti film to prevent vandalism.
The artwork seamlessly integrates the fault reporting phone number into its design.
This initiative aligns with Council’s Graffiti Management Plan, with Mayor Hickey emphasizing that Council remains proactive in responding to customer requests for graffiti removal on Council-owned assets, while also working with private property owners and occupiers to encourage timely removal of graffiti.
