Now Open!
March 2024 Update:
The playground is now open for use!
The expansion of the Council Car Park is underway with works scheduled to be completed by 23/24 financial year.
Construction is underway on the eagerly anticipated new playspace at Benjafield Park!
The new and improved Benjafield Park will be a unique, modern playspace which truly reflects the vision of the local community.
Council staff worked with the Glenorchy community to ensure their voices were heard during the initial design process, with consultation beginning in February to workshop initial requests and wishes for the project.
453 people had their say, voting on the final design choice from two options:
- Space Theme
- Jungle Theme
The winner, with 57% of the vote, was the SPACE THEME! 🎉
The spaceship/rocket design has now been refined to incorporate further feedback/suggestions from the community.
Planned works will involve the realignment of underground power as well as temporary fencing, meaning that the playground and carpark will be unavailable during the works, and power for BBQs and lighting will, at times, be impacted. Council will update the community the community updated throughout the duration of the project.
Council apologises for any inconvenience caused while we work to create this exciting new playspace. We can’t wait to share it with you all! Follow the prompts below to learn more and view the concept design!

January 2024 Update
The majority of the play equipment has now been installed. Supply Chain delays have setback the arrival of the Wee Go swing (accessible swing), which in turn has delayed the completion of the park. On 5 January, the swing arrived in Sydney and will be shipped to the Benjafield Park site as soon as possible.
During the month of January block retaining walls are being completed, with new trees and concrete pathways to the perimeters. During the month of February, the final installation of the Wee Go Swing is anticipated along with the installation of Rubberised Softfall. The expansion of the Council Car Park has also commenced and is well underway.
The opening of the playspace will take place as soon as practical completion is achieved (early March) followed by the opening of the expanded car park.
Glenorchy City Council is pleased to announce that part of this Glenorchy City Council playground renewal project was funded by a bequest from the estate of the late Reginald Webb – long-time Gormanston Rd resident and frequent visitor to Benjafield Park. This donation has funded the purchase and installation of the Wee Go Swing and the Accessible Spinner for the enjoyment of the Glenorchy Community.
October 2023 Update
As of October 2023, the majority of equipment has now been installed.
Next month will see block retaining walls being installed, with new tress and concrete pathways to the perimeters. This will be followed by the installation of rubber softfall material which will be applied throughout the playground area, along with furniture and boundary fencing.
Upgraded car park works will also commence in November.
